They say most of our communication is done with body language. In this case Bernie is wishing he had fingers so he could use one of them to signal his dismay at being kicked out of Bug's Life auditions. Poor ugly little hot pink misfit. He was going to be flipping the bird, but I don't think they'd appreciate that at school...heh heh.
