An Old Project

Here's an old project I'm working on in digital. It was done in gouache and charcoal dust and now I'm fixing it (when I have time) in photoshop. Any advice on how to do weird swirling fog is welcome.

oh how I love to paint wirly smoky fog....my suggestions would be to keep the opacity really low and have a really soft edged brush....like 0% hardness. I start wide and then work to smaller brushes, layering strokes on top of each other. Also think about not just using white for the smoke but white with a little somethin added like blue or yellow or red.

Take a look at brandondorman.com he's got several pieces that have some kind of swirling clouds or smoke that might help. Good luck!
